Handicraft trainings

Gujarat is known for its rich heritage of arts and crafts. Handicraft sector plays pivotal role in state economy by contributing significantly to employment generation and export earnings. Apart from this it is also important because of its high employment potential, low capital investment requirement and high value addition. There is continuous increase in demand both in domestic as well as overseas market. As the industry is highly labour intensive it is highly unorganized and decentralized and spread all over the state in rural and urban areas. The sector involves products such as handicrafts, textiles, garments, jewellery, leather products and home furnishings. The state government has identified handicraft sector as focus area to promote exports and thus there are many government incentive schemes and development programs launched.
